What is typical lifespan of CEO?
Posted by Barbara Nowak-Rowe in Business, Leadership, StrategyDo you ever wonder what is the typical lifespan of a CEO and what it means for a company? Some employees tell us that they have seen it before – a new CEO coming on board, she/he executes 30, 60 and 90 days plan, introduces a new strategy for the company’s future. There is initial excitement of new Vision, Mission and Method… Then comes implementation plan, change management you name it…
Now the question. How many CEO’s stay with the company long enough to see first hand results of their strategy? Companies are at times like large ocean-liners. It takes time for them to adjust or change direction, let alone turn around. How many CEOs can see the impact of what worked and what didn’t? How long does it take to see results? If CEOs do not stay long enough, the next “new CEO” will deal with the results/consequences of predecessor’s changes. What do you think about it? How to ensure continuity and direction?
